As we look forward to our annual dinner celebrating the Greater Twin Cities United Way Tocqueville Society, we’re looking back at a few past honorees. During the 2026 dinner we celebrated our Tocqueville Society’s 20th anniversary and reflected on our community’s legacy of leadership giving by honoring past and present leaders.
Lamar and TiAnna Anderson received the Visionary Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals in the Tocqueville Society who have demonstrated innovation, commitment and leadership in their philanthropic efforts. The award acknowledges the enthusiasm and dedication Lamar and TiAnna bring to supporting the mission and values of Greater Twin Cities United Way and honors the future that is being created in our region because of their dedication.
The couple’s connection with United Way began years before their move to the Twin Cities in 2021. Their first involvement was through Lamar’s workplace giving campaign in Rockford, Illinois. Later, he served on the Board of United Way of Greater Toledo where he helped transform school buildings into community hubs that supported the unique needs of local neighborhoods.
Since making Minnesota their home the Andersons have been enthusiastic supporters of Greater Twin Cities United Way, getting involved by joining the Tocqueville Society, volunteering, and serving in several leadership roles. TiAnna has made a significant impact as a member of the Tocqueville Society cabinet and Lamar serves on the board of directors, chairing the community impact committee and serving on the executive committee.
Volunteering at events like Action Day and Advocacy for Children’s Day have been a meaningful way to connect with people and get involved in the community. It’s also been impactful to be able to share those experiences with their children.
“Not only was it truly impactful for me to help our children see the systems change work people are doing in the community, but also to get them involved and understand how we can make an impact as a family,” said Lamar.
“And helping them understand that it’s more than just addressing a felt need but addressing something that will impact a person for a lifetime and even multiple generations, is important,” added TiAnna.
Lamar co-hosted the United Connections event in the spring of 2025, building bridges between United Way and other Black philanthropists. In his role at Andersen Windows & Doors, Lamar encourages employees to volunteer. Leading by example, he rallies fellow employees each year to support Action Day and equip Twin Cities students with the tools they need to succeed. He also sponsors Home For Good, helping ensure families moving into stable housing have the essentials they need. His active role inspiring Andersen team members to engage with United Way reinforces a culture of giving back and community impact.
Through their leadership, the Andersons bring countless others closer to our work and inspire a deeper level of community engagement.
