United Way Action Day 2018
Thanks to everyone who joined us for Action Day 2018, hosted by the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolves! Over 3,000 volunteers joined us at the Target Center to help us reach our goal and pack 25,000 backpacks on August 9! Because of this incredible effort, when our hometown students go back to school this fall they’ll have the supplies they need to learn, succeed, and reach their full potential.
Couldn’t make it to Action Day? You can still support our community by buying a backpack for a local student who needs one. $28 helps a local student go back to school ready to succeed.
Local comedian, actor, and radio personality Shed G was back again as this year’s Action Day host; he kept volunteers inspired and energized throughout the day. Tunes at the event were provided by DJ Mad Mardigan—the Official DJ of the MN Timberwolves & Lynx.
In addition to volunteering, this all-ages, family-friendly event featured a Prize Playbook, games, prizes, photo booths and a mini-Crayola Experience.
We also announced next year’s event host: Minnesota Wild will be hosting Action Day 2019 at the Xcel Energy Center! Pictured right: Timberwolves and Lynx CEO Ethan Casson hands off the Action Day Host backpack to Wild president Matt Majka.
Backpacks assembled at Action Day have been distributed to over 50 Twin Cities nonprofits and will be given to children in need.
We’re so grateful for everyone that volunteered, gave money and supported the cause. Thank you for making a difference—when our kids do better, our community does better.
