Who's Hungry in the Twin Cities?

It could be your kid’s best friend who goes hungry when school’s out, or your elderly neighbor who’s on a fixed income. There are people in our community who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Your gift helps them access fresh, nutritious food and live full lives.

Feeding Who's Hungry

Food shelf visits have doubled over the past five years, rising to nearly two million during 2016. United Way is addressing this issue by supporting:

  • 20 food shelves in the metro area that serve 144,000 people annually
  • The distribution of 19 million pounds of food annually for those experiencing hunger
  • Referrals to resources for long-term food support for more than 116,000 people annually
  • Increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income individuals and families
  • Environmental stewardship that reduces food waste so resources can be more effective
  • 2-1-1 multilingual phone line and online resource that facilitates connections to community resources
